Ximena Mariño was born in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia.

Her exceptional musical talents were recognised in her early childhood  years. Her mother, who was an opera singer and violinist in the Bogotá Symphonic Orchestra in the fifties, instructed and trained her voice. As a child and teenager she took part, with great success, in many national competitions. Besides that ,she was a singer in various bands and devoted herself especially to her native folk music.

She has been living in Germany since 1980. She is a well known singer to insiders in the Latin American scene. Using original instruments and musicians from her native country she presents the diverse rhythms of Latin America. Her aim is to perform a wide spectrum of her native folklore music.

She inspires the audience with her voice, her interpretations and her sincere and welcome charm. Under these circumstances , it is easy for her to portray an understanding of this unique music.

Her repertory contains not only lively music but also emotional songs written by the people. The songs describe the daily life, the traditions, the cheerfulness and the sadness of the community. They praise the beauty of women, their love, or are, dances and rhythmical celebrations.

In some pieces however, critical social elements emerge, as social problems play a major role in both the present time and past history of South America.
